Making a 9-second pass down the quarter-mile is impressive in its own right, but running low 9s with a manual transmission equipped car is about as cool as it gets if you ask us. In the video above, brought to us by TalonTSi97 via YouTube, this C5 Corvette Z06 is bangin’ gears to a 9.3-second pass at nearly 160 mph.
The C5Z benefits from a forged 347ci LS6 V8 and Trick Flow cylinder heads, blown by a massive Vortech YSi centrifugal supercharger; all backed by a complete C6 Z06 drivetrain and tuned on E85. The video above doesn’t share the power numbers this C5 Z06 is making, but given the statistics, we’re guessing north of 700 horsepower or more at the rear wheels is probably a safe bet.
What’s more impressive is the fact that this nasty Corvette probably has more in it. The owner was battling more than just track temperatures that day. Unfavorable weather conditions coupled with a slipping clutch would “only” yield low 9s in the quarter, but rest assured, we feel pretty confident this Z06 has a bottom 9-second pass in it.
It goes without saying that this Z06’s MPH would tell you that it’s easily a high 8-second car with an automatic transmission, but when you proudly affirm that you have a 9-second stick-shift car, there’s something to be said about those accomplishments. No doubt, this Z06 is out there holding it down for the “older” GM platforms, proving that you don’t need the latest and greatest out there to go fast at the drag strip.
