One of the worst kept secrets in the auto industry is the Cadillac ATS, which has been subject to rumor and speculationfor at least two years now. GM only this year confirmed its existence, and that it is slated to fill the gap in Cadillac’s lineup as a baby CTS. The Cadillac ATS is being designed as a BMW 3-series beater, and it will have a performance flavor while being loaded with high-tech gizmos and typical 1%-er luxuries.Add to that list of luxuries all-wheel drive. GM Inside Newsspotted definite evidence that the ATS will be offered with all-wheel drive, and it comes from GM’s owner ATS teaser video.Riding on the all-new Alpha platform, the Cadillac ATS has all but been confirmed to be a rear-wheel drive vehicle. The next-gen Camaro is slated to ride on the Alpha platform as well, and while all-wheel drive was rumored to be an option on the ATS, GM Inside News spotted some pretty irrefutable evidence of its existence from GM’s latest teaser video.
The video, which we showed you previously, shows the ATS team testing the new car at the Nurburgring. Right around the 1 minute 50 second mark there are two engineers standing over a computer with the ATS on a lift in the background. And then for about a second you see the front wheel begin to turn all by itself. All-wheel drive confirmed!Which begs the question…if GM is going to use the Alpha platform under the Camaro and the ATS, does that mean an all-wheel drive Camaro could be in the future? As an option, of course… can you imagine only being able to buy an AWD Camaro?
There would be riots in the streets.
