In one of those rare instances where concept became reality, General Motors managed to come up with an excellent idea, the 2006 Camaro Concept, and bring it to production mostly intact. And while the 2010 Camaro definitely has some retro cues, it was decidedly more modern than either the Mustang or Challenger. That said, we think muscle car buyers are ready for the next great thing from American automakers, and we would welcome a break from all the retro design cues.

That’s why this Camaro design study, crafted by Tyler Bame and uncovered by Carscoop, seems so appealing to us. And while we’re not about to christen this the end all be all of 2015 Camaro concept sketches, we wouldn’t mind if a few features found their way to the production model.

The interior seems especially sporty and forward-thinking, with a jet-like cockpit that wraps around the driver. We also love the long, shallow, and swooping roofline that really elongates the door. The hood is a little bumpy for our tastes though, and the protruding chin looks like something that would get scraped up with alarming frequency.

However, the headlights are very futuristic, and perhaps our favorite part of this design study. We’re not sure what direction GM is taking the new Camaro, though we are certain it will be smaller and lighter than the current muscle car. On a personal note, we think retro has been played out in the last decade, so we are really looking forward to some fresh new ideas and designs. The current Camaro is a hit because GM took a chance with the design; let’s hope they keep that trend going.
