To say that we are excited for the Camaro ZL1 1LE would be a vast understatement. The brand new flagship is headed to U.S. dealers sometime this summer. Coming in at over $70,000–most likely $72,500 to be exact–many may understandably be thinking “That’s a lot for a Camaro.” And it is, but performance-wise this thing is going to be incomparable to any of its predecessors–including the relatively new ZL1 that it’s based on.
We may even go as far as to say that we see it as a bargain. After all, the car is essentially a supercar at this point and we know for a fact that it will put a couple of “pure breeds” to shame.
Yes– The 1LE is packing the same motor under the hood as the ZL1, but this definitely isn’t just an aesthetic upgrade. This thing is truly fine-tuned. So, no, the aggressive front canards, side skirts, and big a** rear wing aren’t just for looks.
The insane amount of downforce this thing produces, paired with the 6.2-liter LT4, track-tuned suspension, extremely lightweight aluminum wheels, and super sticky Goodyear Eagle F1 3Rs is going to make for an absolutely killer track combination. The new 1LE sheds over 60 pounds when compared to that the “base” ZL1, so we can imagine the provided power is more than satisfactory.
Chevrolet is claiming it’s the most extreme “track-focused” Camaro to date, and we don’t doubt that.
CarSpotterJeroen, who has captured spy videos for us before, spotted two 1LE’s playing on the streets and testing at the Nürburgring just the other day. What does this mean? It most likely means we should be seeing some official lap time soon.
Keep checking back for updates.
