The annual Camaro5 Fest, a meeting of not only the baddest fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaros in the nation, but Camaros of every generation dating from 1967 to the killer Z/28’s and ZL1’s of the present day, was held over the weekend at the Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, Texas, with seven different categories of drag racing action taking place, and among the big winners was New York native Louie Filippides, who drove the American Racing Headers/Farks SuperCars Camaro to victory in the headlining Unlimited class.
The 2010 Camaro that Filippides pilots is powered by a 430 cubic inch LSX bullet using RHS components, with motivation supplied by a ProCharger F1-C supercharger. Tucked neatly inside the engine compartment is one of Chris Alston’s Chassisworks’ sleek Component Drive Systems gear drives, efficiently turning the blower off of the crankshaft.
Filippides ran the table in the Unlimited class with the familiar fifth-gen, as he began the weekend by qualifying atop the field with an 8.400 at 163.57 miles per hour — marks that stood for low elapsed time and top speed of the event. Filippides then carded an 8.85 in the opening round, a bye-run 8.65 in round two and an 8.67 in the semis to set up the final round match with Terry Williams. There, the AHR/Farks team tuned the Chassisworks CDS-equipped machine up, resulting in the quickest run of eliminations — an 8.46 at 163.20 miles per hour — for the win.
