Craigslist Find: LS Swapped ’64 Cadillac Coupe de Ville

00505_lps5McrQL9e_600x450GRThe second generation Cadillac Coupe de Ville ran from 1961 to 1964, and originally came out of the Detroit Assembly (aka Detroit Cadillac) in Detroit, Michigan with two engine options for those years. You could have either a 390 cubic-inch V8, or a 429 cubic-inch V8 engine. You also had two transmission choices: which were the 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic, or the 3-speed TH-400 automatic, according to Wikipedia.

The reason we’re talking about the original engine and transmission for the ’61-’64 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, is because this Craigslist Find 1964 Cadillac Coupe de Ville is powered by a modern LS engine and 4L60 transmission. Let us be the first ones to say, we’re big fans of LS swaps, especially when they’re swapped into non-LS GM vehicles. And we’re definitely big fans of classic Cadillacs, as well. In fact, the Coupe de Ville was such a popular car then, even Elvis Presley owned a few, including a ’61 Coupe de Ville.

00404_893PcD8Jcvs_600x450GRWhen we reached out to the owner of this ’64 Coupe de Ville, he relayed to us that the 5.3 liter V8 LS engine was sourced from a 2003 Silverado and rebuilt. The engine is completely stock (minus the obvious aftermarket filter) and only has a light 32,000 miles on it. The ad continues with the car having an aluminum radiator, a straight body with no rust, and the paint being in decent condition. From the images the seller has provided, we’d have to agree with the paint condition – it’s pretty good.

The transmission was also sourced from the ’03 Silverado, and has been installed to work correctly with the car’s column shifter. We have to admit, whoever performed the swap did a nice job with that addition. The seller also relayed to us that the car has a completely custom exhaust, custom-made engine mounts to house the new 5.3 liter V8, and a Walboro fuel pump.

The 5.3 liter LS V8 looks right at home under the hood of this '64 Coupe de Ville

Did we also mention the custom air suspension setup? The seller used Firestone air bags and solenoids with a VIAIR compressor.

If you’re interested in the vehicle yourself, the seller is asking $14,500 OBO for this ’64 Cadillac. And with all of the work invested into it and the condition it’s in that could be a bargain.
