Now, how you feel about a color is completely subjective, and will depend completely on your personal taste, and for some folks the color of their car isn’t even really all that important, while for others it’s what makes their car special and different. So when a specific color gets eliminated from a line up and replaced with another, it can cause a bit of a stir.
For the 5th Gen Camaro, Red Jewel Tint Coat, which has been part of Chevy’s color line up, has been eliminated and replaced with Crystal Red Tint Coat for the 2012 model year. We found this thread on Camaro5 where member “mlee” was kind enough to snap and post a few comparison pics between the old Red Jewel and the new Crystal Red on a new Z06. Both colors are very similar, with the new Crystal Red seeming to have more of a true “red” tint to it, while the old Red Jewel is clearly more on the maroon end of the spectrum. Truth be told, it’s doubtful that at anyone would even notice the difference between the two from just a quick glance on the street.
If you’re one of the Red Jewel faithful, don’t be offended that GM axed your color of choice. Remember, that just makes your car all the more rare and special now.
