Chevrolet has just released the “Getting to Know Your 2012 Camaro Guide,” and our good friends at CamaroZ28.com have made it available as a PDF file. While essentially an abbreviated owners manual, there are some interesting tidbits here for the Camaro aficionado…
First off, the Camaro has a new steering wheel for 2012 that looks to be exactly the same as the one found in the Cruze. The steering wheel that launched with the Fifth Gen F-body was criticized by some as awkward to hold and cumbersome with the huge round center hub. I always thought the old wheel was cool and we’ll see how kind history is to the day they put a Cruze steering wheel in the Camaro. In the guide, you get a visual walk through of the redundant controls on the new wheel.
Also, the Fifth Gen Camaro got skewered in the press for having a lot of hard plastic on the dash. This has been solved with a soft, stitched piece of fabric that runs the width of the new instrument panel. It looks good and certainly breaks up the vast area of plastic just ahead of front seat passenger.
Lastly, very cool smart phone apps are detailed as well. The myChevrolet and OnStar mobile apps connect owners to a variety of vehicle information and services, such as a searchable Owner’s Manual, real-time fuel information and Roadside Assistance, as well as enabling users to perform Remote Keyless Entry transmitter commands, including locking and unlocking the doors and starting the vehicle.
