For you and I, $900,000 is a ton of clams. There’s a pretty extensive list of cars that any enthusiast would love to spend that kind of money on, that is if they have it. With nearly a million dollars to spend you could pretty much have your choice of ride.
When pondering this list of potential cars, we doubt that the Holden nameplate will be at the top, unless you’re a diehard fan as your author is.
This special edition Monaro is currently listed on eBay for an impressive starting bid of $900,000. Oh, and we should probably point out that’s in Australian dollars, which are currently (pun intended) stronger than the US dollar. Do the math, and we’re talking $934,920 ‘Merican.
According to drive.com.au, the owner claims that there has been significant interest from collectors, even at the current price. You’re probably wondering what differentiates this car from the average Monaro and why the asking price is so high.
Well, this particular Holden, the Monaro HRT 427, is an extremely limited edition automobile. Holden was planning on doing a limited run of the cars and selling them at a sticker price of $215,000. The super expensive ride was to be a street version of Holden race cars bearing the same name, but Holden decided to nix the idea because of limited interest which would drive the forecasted price even higher.
When all was said and done, only 2 remained in existence and this is one of them. The beast comes straight out of the box boasting 418kw of power, which converts to an astonishing 560 horsepower produced at the crank from the 7.0L Chevy engine. Even though, in this situation, most of that power will never see the road it’s still truly awesome. The car may make us Holden aficionados giddy like school children, but it also begs the question: Would you spend nearly a mil on this ride?
