Americans are a resourceful bunch, that much is for sure. When GM killed off Pontiac, they killed off the Holden Commodore-based G8, as well as G8 ST, a car-based truck commonly called a “ute” in Australia. Now a new report has surfaced suggesting that GM’s plans for a ute-based Chevrolet SS might also be stymied by the so-called “chicken tax.”
But to hell with all of that; if Americans want a Holden-based car/truck, they’ll just make one, dammit! Up on eBay right now is a 4-door, Pontiac GTO/Holden Crewman Ute that is probably the only one of its kind.
The details are light, so bear with us. According to the eBay auction, this car is the combination of a Holden Crewman Ute, based off of the Commodore platform, and the front end of a 2004 Pontiac GTO…another Holden Commodore-based product. This car still has the Pontiac’s LS drivetrain and six-speed manual transmission, and it has been converted from right hand drive to the correct American left-hand drive setup.
The car comes with a salvage title, and we’re quite frankly not even sure if it is street legal to drive. That doesn’t make it any less awesome though. It’s a cool, practical, and fun car the whole family can enjoy, and it looks pretty sweet on top of that. GM really needs to bring this product to America, before gas prices get too high to enjoy a car…truck…thing like this.
