General Motors has learned the fine art of prolonging a dish simmering on the front burner to whet the appetites of the initiated. Unlike the “old days” when dealerships would whitewash franchise windows for one day to reveal the all-new vehicles for that year, GM has learned how to reach out to the nostrils of enthusiasts, and over time, their hearts and minds will follow.
Let’s face it, they’ve got big bellies to fill. Almost as soon as the C7 Corvette saw the light of day, enthusiasts were pondering what the C8 Corvette would likely become! The hunger for knowledge has been nothing short of phenomenal. Now, we know a lot more about the base model C8, but GM still has a few more tricks up its sleeve before the generational clock ticks another number.
You can tell the next new model is getting closer when the padding under the camo-based, black and white covering gets paper-thin and “sightings” become more frequent. Just recently, GM has opened the gates of their testing centers and allowed its newest steed to roam free among the mortals. As Corvette Racing dutifully prepares for this weekend’s big race at Le Mans, they were sure to salt the waters of a performance-thirsty crowd by plopping the 2023 Z06 next to the C8.R in the Corvette Racing pits for a bit.
We’ve seen photos of the car and we’ve heard that glorious tune from the Z06’s flat-plane cranked engine. What we haven’t seen, until now, are the requisite videos of the car doing testing— until now. Just this week, numerous videos have appeared online that blend the sights and sounds of what is to be the next Corvette supercar.
There are clearly two different variants of the car being tested. Amid a smattering of other cars threading the ‘Ring, both a high- and low-winged Corvette is seen speeding through the curves of Germany’s Nurburgring.
In this video, you can see spurts of flame emanating from the car’s exhaust as it pulls away in record time. The soundtrack is something to behold, and if your speakers are up to the task, be sure to share the soundtrack with those around you. They’ll be glad you did!
In the meantime, be sure to check out the similarly-stroked C8.Rs this weekend as they take on the world’s best at France’s most famous twisty stretch of roads. Good luck to Corvette Racing and let’s see some more Z06!
