Websites that petition to save a favorite teen drama normally fail, but Jalopnik’s quest to bring back the El Camino is generating an actual response from General Motors. General Motors has created a Facebook page for the revered truck, the El Camino. This page is indeed created in response to Jalopnik’s quest to resurrect Camino from automotive history; the main image on the page links back to Jalopnik website where fans are encouraged to take part in the quest/challenge. This saga began when Jalopnik decided to call Joel Ewanick’s, the Chief Marketing Officer of General Motors, bluff.
Ewanick tweeted the GM would bring back the El Camino if 100,000 people claimed they wanted one. Jalopnik took Ewanick at his word, and started a petition to bring back the El Camino. Currently the new Facebook page hosts a photo gallery of iconic Camino images (likely used in El Camino advertisements over the years). Regardless of personal feelings or history with the car the photo gallery is worth checking out; the images really display the versatility of the classic ride and perhaps give some insight in the American love affair with the El Camino. For those who love the El Camino or just love a challenge, then it is worth a few seconds of your day to check out Jalopnik and the El Camino page on Facebook.
