Car collectors usually fight over VIN 001, and Chevrolet just upped the ante with an exclusive offering for Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. We knew a special edition Corvette was coming, but the full details on the one-of-one ZR1X Stars & Steel Limited Edition are finally out. It turns out this build is way more than just a sticker package. The team at Chevrolet decided to make this specific car impossible to replicate. They made sure that whoever wins the auction owns a piece of history that literally cannot be ordered from a dealer.

The biggest talking point here is the paintwork. You simply can’t get this color on a normal production car. GM calls it Dark Satin Steel, and they developed the mix strictly for this chassis. They didn’t even spray it on the regular assembly line in Bowling Green. Instead, they transported the car to the Design Fabrication Shop in Warren, Michigan, where it could be painted entirely by hand. That custom finish acts as the backdrop for a graphics package that pulls inspiration from the American flag. The interior gets the same level of attention thanks to a unique sequence plaque that confirms the new owner is sitting in a solo build.

Underneath that fancy paint, the car is still a weapon. This one-of-one Corvette ZR1X runs the same hybrid setup as the standard model, which means a twin-turbo 5.5-liter LT7 V8 working with a front-mounted electric drive unit. That means a whopping 1,250 horsepower hits the pavement through all four wheels. It’s essentially brutal speed for a good cause, as every dime from the car’s sale goes to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to help veterans, Gold Star families, and first responders. The car crosses the block with no reserve on Saturday, January 24th. Considering the standard ZR1X costs over $209,000, the final bid will likely be astronomical.

Everyone is already looking at Rick Hendrick to be the high bidder. The NASCAR owner is famous for buying the first example of every new Corvette, and he has the deep pockets to win this war. It makes perfect sense for his collection. Whoever wins it isn’t just buying a fast Chevy. They are taking home the only one-of-one Corvette ZR1X Stars & Steel Limited Edition in existence.
