Fans were in awe when Holden debuted their 2017 30-year range back in January, which included the long awaited LS9-powered GTS-R W1.
With only 300 being allotted for the general public and over 800 interested buyers upon its release, the W1 was already completely sold out. The sales for the rest of the lineup weren’t much different– causing bidding wars at dealerships.
Holden officials were claiming a “few” W1s were being held on to for special events and auctions. Either way– we knew, even with its hefty price tag, the “road-legal racecar” would be extremely difficult for someone to get their hands on.
However, just recently WheelsMag spoke with HSV Marketing and Product Planning General Manager, Damon Paull. Allegedly, there are still W1s that have not been spoken for, and they will start to surface after they have served their duties at press events and shows. He even mentioned that there are a few out at dealers that haven’t found owners just yet– but that won’t last long.
For the rest of the special-editions from the 2017 lineup, the deal sweetens. The Commodore Motorsport, Director, and Magnum have been in high demand and, one salesman accidentally leaked another incentive for buyers and interested buyers. Turns out, everyone lucky enough to get their hands on one, gets to also choose their very own build number on a first-come first-serve basis.
As with most other decisions from HSV, we love the idea. We imagine most buyers are extremely honored to be owning something that will be such a large piece Australian automotive history.
