There has been a lot of hype around the new C8 platform. As you might expect, the aftermarket is chomping at the bit to get one in their hands. We have already seen a couple of nitrous system installations, aftermarket wheels, and even drag packs with drag radials installed on these cars. What we haven’t witnessed is the use of forced induction. Well, that is until today anyway.
Hennessey Performance has already fitted and dynoed its C8 Corvette with a twin-turbo system. And while we don’t have many details on the combination, we do have dyno numbers and a test drive from Hennessy’s frontman and owner, John Hennessey.
From Hennessey’s dyno video, we can tell that the C8 made 643 horsepower at 6,200 RPM and 570 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 RPM. These are some pretty serious numbers considering the car is brand new, and that there are a lot of questions that have yet to be answered. Like how much boost are they running, what size turbos were utilized, and most importantly, how is the team enrichening the fuel for the engine? From what we hear, it could take tuners months to crack the factory ECU from a tuning standpoint.
You can’t deny that the twin-turbo C8 sounds amazing as John drives the car around the track. In the video, he opens it up, and the new LT2 V8 roars to life while making all of the boost noises. John also tells us the car feels stock going down the highway under light throttle. However, as soon as you crack the accelerator pedal, the turbo C8 roars to life with the additional power. John said, “The immediate impression is, the torque hit and power; this is like a completely different car.”
While we still don’t know much about the C8 engine, transmission, and tuning, we guarantee this platform when modified is going to be nothing short of extraordinary.
