Just when you think the LS swap madness cannot get much more insane, we get word that Mast Motorsports has helped create the airboat from hell. Imagine hauling ass through the swaps hunting for gators or racing a LS-powered rally car on pavement with a supercharged LS-powered airboat. Mast Motorsports posted a couple of videos proving there are multiple ways to do donuts with an LS-powered ride. According to Mast Motorsports’ video the test airboat utilized the 550 horsepower L92-based Cyclone engine with a 2-1 reduction drive with a Whirlwind Stump Puller Prop and was capable of traversing the swaps, waterways or canals with equal ease.
As if this potent combination of watercraft and off-road vehicle could not get more dangerous, Mast Motorsports again proves the world wrong by lining up a different airboat (estimated 800 HP, most likely the LS7-based, supercharged Hurricane) against a Rally Fighter (estimated 450 HP) on the street. Yes, a boat on the street. Why on earth would this display of horsepower and testosterone be deemed necessary, with a fairly good chance at skin grafts and body casts being required? This challenge was cooked up for an upcoming episode of Top Gear USA set to air Sunday, August 7. It is probably safe to predict that Mr. Foust will be supporting team Rally Fighter while the loveable Rutledge will be backing the airboat. Regardless of danger factor, the LS-powered airboat looks like a lot of fun.
