The beloved Australian General Motors manufacturer and mastermind behind the legendary Commodore, Holden, just recently announced the exact time they will take the wraps off of their 2017 vehicle lineup via the company’s Facebook page.
While this is an exciting time for most, it may be worth noting that a while back, multiple sources claimed the company will soon be shifting its focus toward pickups and SUVs. Not the greatest news for us. With the recent retirement of the beloved Commodore, Holden has already debuted their three final limited edition VFs, claiming they’re “paying tribute” to the original. So, we aren’t expecting anything major from Holden (at least anytime soon), but we definitely aren’t losing hope. Rumor has it that the Commodore will live on, albeit in a front wheel drive chassis.
Also, there have been a plethora of spy shots circulating the web of the high-performance GTS-R and rumored GTS-R W1, which is said to be housing the 6.2-liter LS9. Holden is already taking reservations for a limited-edition vehicle, so maybe the promised rear-wheel-drive V8 is coming sooner than expected… Who knows? We’re hoping that a rear wheel drive V8 platform will be kept in the family, but at this point it is looking less and less likely.
Either way, we will soon we will find out exactly what’s coming in 2017. The reveal will take place Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. Australian time, meaning tomorrow at 8:01 a.m. Eastern and 5:01 a.m. Pacific. Check back to lsxmag.com tomorrow for updates and the official list.
