From the mid 60s to the mid 70s, the Jensen Interceptor GT was the quintessential British gentleman’s car. With its long wheel base, 2+2 layout and its Chrysler RB V8 mill, the Interceptor was American muscle hidden under elegant and posh British bodywork. Jensen went bankrupt in 1976 and not since then has the world laid eyes upon a new one of these Anglo-Saxon musclecars. However, Jensen has recently been reformed by a group of investors and they have plans to release a new Jensen GT.
Old School Cool Meets New School Innovation
The GT is similar to the Dodge Challenger as they both kept the spirit of their old models alive in terms styling and performance while modernizing them simultaneously. The basic outline and styling of the Interceptor are there, but modern touches have been made in the body lines. The chassis of the GT will be constructed from an aluminum alloy while its body panels will be carbon fiber. The suspension will be front and rear fully independent double wishbones while AP Brakes that measure 350mm and 300mm bring the car to a halt. The GT will roll on a set of 19×8 inch rims in the front and 19x10s in the rear.
British Styling, American PowerLike the original Interceptor which was powered by a 440, the GT’s mill comes from our side of the pond. Underneath its bonnet are 665 horses and 630 wheel-spinning pound-feet of torque produced by 6.4 liter LSX supercharged V-8 engine. This motor will be backed by either a 6 speed manual or automatic transmission.
Jensen hopes to have the car on the market in 2016 where it will be sold in limited numbers.
With its posh yet tough styling and rugged V-8 mill, think of the Jensen GT as more of a ‘Daniel Craig Bond’ rather than a ‘Pierce Brosnan Bond.’ This isn’t a friendly Rolls Royce – this is a tough, tire spinning, rubber burning, high torquing, blue collar, in-your-face American musclecar trapped in a classy Brit’s body.
