If you own or have driven a sixth-gen Camaro, then you know how frustrating the fly-by-wire throttle system can be. You give it gas, and the car doesn’t move. You push the throttle more and it starts to creep a forward. This delay might be good for fuel consumption but if you are going to buy a sports car, you probably want it to perform and drive like one.
Recently we decided to try the JMS PedalMAX on our sixth-gen Camaro and put it through the paces. Since factory pedal like all of the GM vehicles leaves much to be desired, we were curious to see what improvement we would get with a plug-n-play device that is simple to install. Could it really make a big difference in the attitude and driveability of the Camaro?
JMS says that this PedalMAX is simple to install and they are not exaggerating. First, you will need to unhook the battery which is always a good idea when working with electronics. Next, simply unplug the factory pedal harness out of the throttle pedal and set it to the side. You then plug the JMS PedalMAX harness into the pedal. Now reconnect the factory pedal harness into the PedalMAX controller. Secure the PedalMAX unit with the supplied cable ties and you are ready to go. This entire process took us less than 5 minutes for us to complete.
You will immediately notice the drivability of the car is extremely more enjoyable than it was. The throttle pedal went from lethargic to snappy in just a few minutes. It felt so good that we even decided to put it on the dyno to see if anything changed. Much to our surprise, our sixth-gen did pick up power in both horsepower and torque on our Dynojet dyno. The PedalMAX gave us a gain of 11.8 horsepower and 14.1 lb-ft of torque at the wheels which gave us a total of 407.5 horsepower and 412.61 lb-ft.
The PedalMAX retails for $289.00 and offers a great bang for the buck. Our frustration has turned in to pure delight as we roll off of stop signs and stop lights now. The PedalMAX is available for the following 2013-’18 Cadillac ATS, 2014-’18 Cadillac CTS – 2.0L and 3.6L Turbo, 2016-’18 Cadillac CT6, 2014-’18 Corvette C7, 2014-’18 Chevy SS sedan, 2016-’18 Camaro.
