Mike Romeo in action at the 2011 Yellow Bullet Nationals

It’s with a heavy heart on this day that we must report the passing of fellow racer Mike Romeo. Mike was involved in a tragic automobile accident in Bucks County, Pennsylvania on Monday, August 6, and fought hard until earlier this afternoon when he succumbed to his injuries that were sustained in the accident. The racing community has lost not only a great racer but an even better friend and family man, as Mike was widely respected on and off the track. A fund has been started to help his family to pay for expenses — details of which can be found in a thread on Yellowbullet.

Romeo campaigned a beautiful Chevrolet Camaro at many northeast tracks, including Cecil County, Atco and Englishtown. With the true spirit of a racer, Mike was known to race in just about any class he could. About as a versatile racer as you’d find anywhere in the country, Mike Romeo was well known for being a top runner in not only 10.0 index, but 8.50 index as well.

Mike compiled many wins and track championships over his career, along with a vast amount of respect from friends and competitors alike. With a big smile and pure love for the sport that was infectious, it was hard not to like him. Many fellow racers have made their best memories known through posts on Yellow Bullet and one of the common themes was his willingness and ability to help out who ever he could at the track. Even if you were lined up next to him you could be sure that you had a friend in the other lane.
