Lifted station wagons may seem a bit redneck, but when you start with a 4-wheel-drive wagon and swap in an LS1 engine the result is pretty awesome. Autoholics was scouring Craigslist for the weird, wacky and downright strange when they happened upon a listing for LS1-powered 1987 AMC Eagle wagon. Despite the obvious typo on the listing price of $98,000 (perhaps the seller is dreaming) this wagon looks like a lot fun with the potential to cause a lot of trouble.
Of course this ’87 is not sitting at a stock ride height by any means thanks to the 35-inch baja tires and obvious suspension work. Originally the well-intentioned wagon was designed for light-duty off road, but anything and I mean anything can be made to tackle dirt, sand or rocks (for example the boat that is notorious for cruising the dunes in Glamis). According to the seller the LS1 came from a 2003 Corvette with only 40,000 miles on the clock and puts out an estimated 350 horsepower.
Thanks to the additional power from the Corvette engine, the Eagle is able to climb large stumps on paved surfaces; in reality this parking job was actually used to display the capabilities of the suspension. Suspension and fabricated goodies include 14” Fox front coil-overs, custom bumpers, upgraded leaf springs in the rear along with rear shocks and much more.
Imagine how much fun it would be to surprise a few Jeep, K5 or Bronco owners with this Eagle wagon? This monster features the original and very stunning porno red carpet, panels and seats, but remains a touch of class with wood accenting on the door panels and dash.
