Ouch: ’72 Stingray Suffered An Accident, Looks Worse For Wear

14050079_1_IIAA is constantly chock full of cars somewhere between being restored or having two tires in the crusher, so to speak. Whichever one you think better fits the description of today’s offering, we leave to you to decide.

14050079_3_IThis blue 1972 Corvette now occupies a space on the auction-house website, with high-rolling bidders already in full swing to have the car spared its judgment day. As of this writing, pre-bidding has reached $7,000, which is about a third of its ACV (actual cash value; i.e., what it would be worth in perfect condition) as estimated by the party that sold the vehicle to IAA.

The VIN on this particular Corvette–1Z67K2S523399–reveals that it is a convertible, and is powered by a V8 rated at a measly 200 horsepower, with a “K” as its fifth digit denoting the 5.7L ZQ3 350. For what it’s worth, the engine still starts and runs, so the car can be driven under its own power, but it sure won’t be winning any awards anytime soon.

The damage to the car is not bad, but it’s not negligible either. A victim of an accident, the Corvette appears to have taken a pretty serious punch to the driver’s side; a textbook “T-bone” that cracked the front clip rather badly and spread it all the way to the other side. The rocker panels are beat up as well, but other than that, this ride is a solid choice for a fixer-upper project, and should enjoy plenty more miles on the road once it’s all repaired and repainted.

IAA has calculated the repair cost to be upwards of $15,000, meaning it will be a long-term project for the average Joe working out of his garage. What do you think? Would you take a chance on this Vette? Or let it ride on by? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
