So, would it make sense that a Chevrolet Corvette would be the police vehicle of choice for the land of the autobahn? Our answer: But of course! However, things are not always what they seem.

Since 2005, the German Federal Ministry of Transport and the Association of Automobile Tuners have collaborated on a project called “Tune It! Safe!”

Air Pollution in Germany

Most countries have strict air quality regulations, and law enforcement is not very keen on cars with performance modifications.

“Tune It! Safe!” is a campaign for responsible vehicle modification that encourages owners to modify their vehicles within legal limits.

This fantastic police Corvette is an example of such allowable modifications.

For Germany’s deeply-rooted tuner culture, the “Tune It! Safe!” program sounds like a fair compromise between safety and emissions.

The German Corvette Polizei was built by TIKT Performance, and it features a full carbon fiber body kit that includes a front lip spoiler, fender flares, and side skirts. Flashing lights and 19-inch front, 20-inch rear RR-1 forged alloy wheels add to the modifications.

An interesting fact about this specific model is that there are no modifications under the hood; at least, not yet.

The 6.2-liter V8 engine with a seven-speed manual transmission boasts 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, same as the stock Sting Ray with the factory performance exhaust option.

Other cars transformed over the years have included an Audi R8 and a Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The police Corvette is the latest in a series of police cars built for the “Tune It! Safe!” program.
