Project X Promotions Presents Brawl In The Falls No-Prep Race

Due to the circumstances of 2020, it’s been months since we were able to cover an event. Everything has been either postponed or canceled until further notice. Like many of you, we are itching to get out of the house and do racecar things with our race car friends. Fortunately, the state of Texas opened up a few weeks ago, which allowed our hometown track, Wichita Raceway Park (WRP), to have a No-Prep event called Brawl In The Falls. When we heard the news, we got excited and cleaned the dust and cobwebs off our gear in preparation for this event.

WRP is just to the north of Wichita Falls, Texas. Like many local tracks, it’s had some ups and downs over the years but has been able to hang on during the good and bad times. During the winter months, WRP owners made some awesome upgrades to the facility, including concrete walls, more seating, and new equipment. An interesting note about this facility, it’s only two hours from Oklahoma City and Fort Worth making it the perfect location for Oklahoma and Texas to battle it out.

Project X Promotions, which is headed up by Jason Flores and Matt Plotkin, is responsible for bringing Brawl In The Falls to WRP. This dynamic duo created races like Bounty Hunters No-Prep Grudge Series and the popular Winter Meltdown. If anyone could pack the stands and get the cars to the track, it would be these guys. But with everything going on, could they get it done?

The race was scheduled to kick off Friday night with a daily driver shootout, which was followed by grudge racing. Saturday would be a full day of racing, including classes for Big Tire, Small Tire, True Street, 6.0 and 7.0 index, and Junior Dragsters

As the trucks and trailers started rolling in, it is evident that we weren’t the only ones looking to get out of the house. There were some big names down from Street Outlaws, which included Chuck Parker and The 55, The Mistress, Plan B, The Luv, and Hellenor. And while the races got started a little later than expected on Friday night, the WRP crew kept the event running smoothly.

Saturday was more of the same, but the races started much earlier. We don’t recall a single wreck or oil down all day long. When we got down to the finals, the crew made the call to do a flashlight start grudge race prolonging the excitement as everyone prepared for the finals.

The winner of the Big Tire class was none other than Chuck Parker and his nitrous-huffing ’55 Chevy. This car was on rails, and from what we could tell, his closest race was with the Plan B Corvette. Chase Kurszewski took home the small tire win in his killer first-gen Firebird. Cody Hoffman won True Street with his LS-powered Fox Body Mustang with the help of a Trick Turbo setup. Local racer Randy Schmidt was able to take home the 6.0-index class win with his second-gen Firebird, and Tripp West took the 7.0-Index class.

Overall, this was a great race, and it was awesome to be able to get out and go to the track. Our hats are off to Wichita Raceway Park and Project X Promotions for a killer event in these crazy times.
