January 31^st 2011 marked the beginning of regular production of the new Camaro Convertible at the Oshawa Assembly Plant. According to Marketwire, both Rick Hendrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were in attendance to mark the occasion. New Camaro convertibles are scheduled to start arriving in the Chevrolet dealerships in February.

Hendrick purchased the first 2010 Camaro coupe and 2011 convertible, available for public sale through Barrett-Jackson auctions with the proceeds benefiting charity.  Both Hendrick and Earhardt Jr. are both well acquainted with the Chevrolet brand and have numerous ties both professionally and personally to it.

With the price of the new convertible model starting $30,000 for the 3.6 L V-6 model producing 312 horsepower and 278 ft-lb of torque, the entry level Camaro ragtop should have no problem finding its place in the market. The SS model convertible starts at $37,500, for those craving a more powerful V-8 version with 426 horsepower and 420 ft-lb of torque.

President and Managing Director of GM of Canada, Kevin Williams said, “The launch of the new convertible opens Camaro design and performance to a new set of enthusiastic customers, while further demonstrating the flexible capabilities of the award-winning Oshawa Assembly Plant.” The new convertible Camaro will be one of the three new vehicles being produced at the Oshawa Assembly Plant. Additional shifts have been added at the plant to keep up with the demand.
