Even though you may have never heard of it, the Spyker C8 Aileron has been around for 13 years now. This limited production exotic was designed with aviation as a strong influence, as you can tell from styling cues, both inside and out. Based on the latest rumors in relation to a proposed newpowertrain, this mid-engine coupe may just be taking off from a runway near you in the near future.

Since its conception in the year 2000, a 4.2l Audi V8 rated at a respectable 400 horsepower has powered the Aileron. Even though 400 ponies is nothing to sneeze at, it just isn’t enough to enter the discussion when talking about high dollar exotic sports cars these days. Instead of the Audi V8, says Autoblog, something a bit more familiar to fans of American muscle may just appear under the decklid of the mid-engine Aileron within the next couple of years.

Autoblog suggests that talks of a new engine supplier from Chief Commercial Officer, John Walton, in combination with rumors of forced induction in the future of the Spyker leads one to think that power by means of LSA or LS9 could be in the future of the car.

This would certainly provide a substantial step up over the current naturally aspirated power numbers. Of course, all of this is assuming that Spyker doesn’t decide to just supercharge the current Audi power plant instead, but we can dream, can’t we?

All we know is that the swap would most certainly further validate the car’s status in comparison to those in the same class. Even though as of now it’s all speculation, we’re excited to see if we will soon be able to welcome another impressive model to the LS family.
