The independent rear suspension record wasn’t the only mark to fall over the weekend during the LSX Challenge event at Atlanta Dragway, held in conjunction with the NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals. Judson Massingill, who along with his wife, Linda, runs the School of Automotive Machinists in Houston, reset the LSX-powered All Motor class record behind the wheel of his SAM Racing ’99 Chevrolet Camaro at a stout 8.23 seconds.

Massingill, whose racing machine is tuned and maintained by students of the school, qualified atop the LSX All Motor field with a great 8.246 at 164.39 with the high-winding Camaro. Then, on raceday, he used a slowing but still low-for-the-round 8.37 to advance over Danny Niceley’s Corvette, then blasted out an 8.252 at an even quicker 164.79 miles per hour, and in the final, used his best run of the weekend, an 8.235 at 164.11 to not only add one more All Motor trophy to the schools’ trophy case, but reset his own national record in the process. With some newcomers to the growing LSX game, you can be sure they’ll be gunning for Massingill and the SAM Racing Camaro.
