It appears that the masterminds over at Sector111 are teaming up with Palatov Motorsport for the development of their new “Project Dragon” based off of Palatov Motorsport’s D2. To get you a little more familiar with the two companies, Sector111 was started in 2003 for driving enthusiasts, by driving enthusiasts. They are the North American market leader in niche lightweight sports cars such as Lotus, Ariel, and BAC. Palatov Motorsport LLC was founded in October of 2008 to design and manufacture high performance vehicles, parts and accessories, primarily targeted at recreational trackday use. Palatov Motorsport has also been successful in designing and supplying components such as suspension parts for custom car applications ranging from individual builds to low and medium volume specialty vehicles.
Project Dragon definitely does live up to its name. First off, the mid-engined vehicle will be equipped with an emissions-compliant GM E-ROD LS3 powerplant producing 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a Porsche 6-speed transaxle and with the whole car weighing 1800 pounds total, we can just imagine how brutal the power delivery will be.
Sector111 designed this mid-engined monster to be a purist’s dream with no ABS, traction control, or driver’s aids. The car will be a two-seater with a 102-inch wheelbase and 154 inches in overall length. Project Dragon will come with 17 x 8 wheels with 235/40ZR17 tires up front and 18 x 10.5 wheels with 315/30/ZR18 tires out back.
Another cool part of this car’s development was the fact that Sector111 brought in Ryan Kulhlenbeck to be part of their dream team. Kulhlenbeck has more than seven years of experience as an OE Integration Engineer for GM and has had his hands on cars such as the ZL1 Camaro, Cadillac CTS-V, and Chevrolet Volt.
Some of his integration projects include Jay Leno’s 1966 1000+ horsepower Toronado, Ariel Atom 2 Ecotec, an Outlaw 10.5 2500+ horsepower Firebird, and a lot more. Project Dragon has undergone more than 20 track days, and even though the body is yet to be designed, pricing and availability have been announced. It will be available in the fall of 2014 and can be purchased in a rolling chassis form for $70k or a complete car for $90k. We can’t wait for more details on this LS3-propelled go kart, nor can we wait to see it tear up the track in person!
