The annual Dakar Rally is arguably the toughest motorsports event in the entire world. Crossing thousands of miles of unforgiving Argentinian mountains, deserts, and hinterlands, the Dakar Rally is attempted by few and conquered by even fewer. The race requires a hardy constitution, as well as a ridiculously fast and reliable vehicle supported by a full racing team at every checkpoint.
If you ask us, there is only one name that matters when it comes to reliability; Chevrolet. So it is little wonder that the Chevy bowtie will be well represented at the 2014 Dakar Rally, with vehicles like the EVR Proto VX-101 showing how Chevy does Dakar. Boasting a fresh new look and a supercharged LS9 engine, this bad boy is ready to tear up Patagonia.
The looks come from the global 2014 Chevy Colorado (revealed at the LA Auto Show on November 20th), though the whole thing is certainly a custom chassis designed to hold up to Dakar’s brutal jumps and sand dunes. Eric Vigouroux of Eric Vigouroux Racing will drive the Proto VX-101 along with co-pilot BJ Baldwin, putting two of off-road racing’s elite in the same cabin.
So what could make these two even more unstoppable, you ask? How about a supercharged LS9 engine, which will be backed by a beefy Fortin sequential transmission. Because the two are entered in the competitive 2WD category, all that power is going to make for a lot of great action shots out on the rally course.
