Swap Insanity: A Crazy, Twin-Turbo LS1 VW Golf from Scandanavia

If you think there are some crazy builds in the United States, check out what’s going on in Scandanavia!

Initially built by Peter Steinwandt of PSW Engineering and driver Daniel Björk in 2011, this RWD-converted Volkswagen Golf R32 is one of, if not the nastiest Volkswagens we’ve ever seen – we mean that in the best way possible, of course.

For the 2013 drift season, PSW started fresh and began building Björk’s new car, which meant there was no use for the Golf anymore.

Björn Forsman Roos, of Dala Performance, quickly scooped up the car and prepared it for even more battle than it has already been through. With the dry-sumped, 450 horsepower LS1 already sporting Wiseco pistons, Lunati forged rods, and a forged stroker crankshaft to bump up the displacement from 5.7L to 6.2L, Roos slapped on two rather large Precision turbos, boosting the output to 1,056 horsepower at the rear wheels.

To bring the horsepower numbers into fruition, an Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT EFI intake manifold and twin fuel rails, Delphi 893cc injectors, Nuke Performance fuel pressure regulator, and a Barry Grand 400-series fuel pump were some of Roos’ weapons of choice. The car puts the power down via Jerico WC4 4-speed dog box to a Chevy 10-bolt rear end out of a Camaro Cup race car, and boost is limited by twin Precision 46mm wastegates.

The suspension is pretty fit for duty as well – using Sachs dampers in the custom-built front coilovers, and Öhlins components in the rear. There are so many custom touches and features on this gnarly Golf R32, and it’s really an awesome car that gets put through its paces quite a bit, and that’s what we like to see!

Here is a video of the car before the twin Precision turbos were installed – enjoy!
