Given the popularity of subscription-based services, a seismic shift seems inevitable in the automotive sector. In fact, it’s already happening. Things like satellite radio, apps, infotainment, and even today’s lease deals were unfathomable just 20 years ago. The latest vehicle to tack on monthly fees is the new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X.
Excessively Cool
LSX Magazine has it on good authority that the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X will launch with multiple tiers that add both power and substance. Dubbed the Grand Sport XSS Performance Subscription program (pronounced ‘excess’), this service will allow Grand Sport owners to equip their ride with up to 1,000 horsepower with the touch of a button! Of course, Chevrolet isn’t just going to hand you all that power for free. This is 2028 thinking, after all.
Under the new XSS Performance Subscription, Grand Sport X owners will unlock horsepower much like they unlock movies from their favorite streaming service. With 850 horsepower and a mild bump in front axle assist, the Paddock Package is perfect for spirited driving. Click the box for the Chicane Package to receive 925 horsepower, quicker torque delivery, and access to specific launch control–because regular launch control is apparently for peasants. Finally, the Homestretch Package offers a full 1,000 horsepower, complete with what Chevy is calling “aggressively enthusiastic” torque vectoring.

There’s An App For That
Naturally, the added power and performance come from the car’s electric front axle, and, naturally, everything is managed through a Corvette Performance App. Inside that app, owners can upgrade, downgrade, or panic-cancel their horsepower depending on weather conditions, tire life, or how recently they checked their bank account. Chevrolet has also implemented a few safety features to ensure responsible use. For example, the Homestretch Package is geo-fenced. Try to activate it in a Starbucks parking lot, and the car will politely decline while suggesting a nice 721-horsepower latte run instead.
Every new Grand Sport X owner who opts for the Performance Package will receive a 30-day XSS Performance Subscription trial, allowing them to experience four-digit horsepower before deciding whether they truly need it… or just emotionally require it. To sweeten the deal, Chevrolet is also rumored to be working on a theft deterrent mode that limits the car to 100 horsepower and plays Consumer Reports’ latest car reviews, which, as we all know, is enough to drive any logical person crazy.

We get it. The idea of subscribing to horsepower sounds a little wild. But if this is the future, at least it’s a future where you can wake up, grab your phone, and decide whether today feels like 721 horsepower or 1,000 horsepower. Just don’t forget your password… or the fact that it’s April Fools’ Day!
