This Father and Son Project Monte Carlo is Built for the Strip

We’ve been getting an influx of LS-swapped GM G-bodies lately, and our readers never seem to get sick of them. Most of the ones we’ve featured in the past have been primarily built for the street, but one father and son team has different ideas.

This is what Brett's Monte Carlo started out as...

The ’83 Monte Carlo that you’re looking at on this page is not an actually SS model, but rather, started out in life as a very solid, and very clean, little old lady LS – with T-tops! It belongs to LSXMag reader Brett Chumura, and this car has been a labor of love and passion for the last seven years. 

See, Brett first picked this G-body up when he was 13, and with the help of his pops (who has a Malibu drag car himself), they have focused their sites on turning the little old lady special into something truly spectacular. In this instance, an LS-powered drag car!

The Chumras sourced an LQ4 iron block. and then strapped a set of high-flowing L92 heads and a Holley Hi-Ram intake on top, while an LS9 camshaft, forged pistons, and H-beam rods help keep the motor together when those two GT45 turbos spool up.

While the turbos have yet to be mounted up to the engine in these photos, Brett continues to persevere with the project with the help of his dad and friends.

The body received the SS treatment thanks to a Monte SS Aerocoupe parts car that was too far gone to restore. The rear spoiler, front nose piece, and several other parts from the SS found their way onto the young Chumra’s ride, a car that he has since repainted red from its original creme color.

Looking at the back, and you can see how the Monte will have center-mounted exhaust. The picture on the left is what it currently looks like, while the photo on the right is a Photoshopped rendering of the finished product.
