If you’ve been pondering getting into the LSX Challenge, but don’t want to spend the time building your own LSX powered drag radial car, then this orange Z28 might be just the ticket. We found this rough and ready drag car is listed for sale on Pro-Touring.com of all places, but we were still pretty impressed by this early 4th Gen.
The Z28 may have started its life with an LT1 with less than 300 horsepower at the crank, but now it can pop wheelies whenever it feels like it thanks to its new LSX power plant. The Z28 is powered by a built LSX that boasts 408 cubic inches, 11.75:1 compression, a forged rotating assembly from Callies, 330 CFM Trick Flow cylinder heads, and a big shot of nitrous from an Edelbrock system. The engine runs on a carb set up and has been converted to fire with a distributor thanks to GM Performance Parts conversion kit.
The suspension setup harnesses the 408 LSX’s rage thanks to a ton of custom fabricated tubular suspension components, which all gets suspended by a combo of KONI struts in the front and adjustable QA1 rear struts. A PTC 350 Turbo transmission and a nice Moser 12 Bolt with a spool and 4.30 gears get the power to the rear tires. The simple, light weight, and super tough Weld RTS wheels and Mickey Thompson Drag Radials keep the Z28 rolling hard on the track and the street, and Wilwood brakes bring it to a stop.
The owner insists that he has invested over $60,000 in this drag radial beast, but is willing to let it go for just $27,000. To find out more check out the thread on Pro-Touring.com.
