Since 2008, men and women have come from every corner of the country for a chance to make a run down the Texas Mile. Don’t let the name fool you; this isn’t some track meet for running fans. No, this is an event where you bring the fastest, most powerful car you can, and attempt to go as fast as you can in the span of 5,280 feet.
Last week we came across a video of this 1,800 horsepower Camaro hitting the Late Model Racecraft dyno. Well, that very same Camaro has just returned from the Texas Mile, where it hit 239 MPH.
That’s pretty damn fast, especially when you consider that this car is at least ten years old and its going up against the likes of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and lots of Corvettes. Camaros of all vintages have been a fixture at these events as well, but these days a lot of tuners and owners have gravitated towards the next-generation Camaro. LMR dialed this old warrior up another level, putting down over 1,800 horsepower and 1,300 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels.
The twin-turbocharged engine and Camaro’s chassis were built specifically for top end speed. Amazingly enough, from the factory the LS1 Camaros were capable of going 160 MPH. But getting anywhere past the 200 mark is quite a challenge, and managing to go very nearly 240 MPH? Well that’s just gosh darn impressive. Way to represent the old(ish) school!
