It may have been pretty fun at first, but this whole Harlem Shake craze has really gotten out of hand. We don’t mean to get all thoughtful on you, but just consider all the reports of people losing their jobs because of videos shot on worksites, and any of the hundreds of videos of ‘shakers literally risking life and limb to entertain the YouTube masses. Getting fired and risking your life for an internet meme? Yeah, this is getting ridiculous.
Take for example this Harlem Shake video we found in the “Please Don’t Try This At Home” files, featuring an LS1 powered 4th Gen Camaro. Called the “Crazy Bunny Camaro” edition, the video was reportedly shot in Aruba and shows exactly what you’ve come to expect from any Harlem Shake video featuring a powerful car. All things considered, the video isn’t even all that crazy – that is, until one of the “mechanics” decides to hold on to the t-tops rodeo-style while the Camaro throws a few brodies.
We get it – this whole meme is about being funny and not caring, and most of the novelty lies in the fact that people are dancing crazy in places they really shouldn’t be. But the escalating levels of danger people are incorporating into their videos in an attempt to grab more YouTube views is just more proof of how tired the whole trend is becoming. What’s your take?
