Wheels have always been an important accessory on any car, whether you’re talking about some troublesome tuner or a classic ‘32 Ford hot rod. As the “rim” market matures though, manufacturers find themselves needing to up the ante when it comes to making a vehicular fashion statement. While big rims have certainly gone mainstream, we have our eyes on another automotive fad that has become more prevalent in recent years.

The videographers over at the Platinum Player captured video of this 5th-generation Camaro, painted in a striking gunmetal grey. It comes rolling into a local car show on 26-inch “floaters,” wheels with centers that stay in place, making it look like the Camaro “floats” over the road.

These days 26-inch rims aren’t even THAT big, with aftermarket automakers offering 21 and even 22-inch wheels on factory vehicles. So the jump to 26-inch rims isn’t even all that remarkable, though going with such large shoes requires modifications to the fenders and suspension. So it isn’t exactly an easy upgrade.

If you’re going to go through all that work, why not get the blingiest wheels you can? But where “spinners” were once the rage, the fad seems to be all about floaters, which ride on a separate bearing from the actual tire support. While big rims may not be in everyone’s taste, it’s a fad that may become increasingly popular with the younger crowd… and on the Camaro, they don’t look half bad.
