If you’re planning an LS swap into a project car, buying a complete F-body can be one of the easiest ways to make sure you get most of the parts you’ll need all at once. All things considered, buying a relatively complete salvage car usually won’t cost you too much more than buying the engine and transmission separately. You’ll also have the advantage of getting all the electronics, brakes, rear end, and maybe even some interior parts you could use on your project.
In this video we found on YouTube features a wrecked but useable Trans Am that will be giving up its driveline for a swap into a 55 Chevy. The body of the car has surely seen better days, but as you’ll soon observe, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with the powerplant. While the LS1 is still in the Trans Am, they decide to have a little pre-swap fun. Just put down a little bit of water, hold the brakes, apply generous amounts of LS1 power; and presto – you’ve got yourself a full-fledged junk yard burnout machine.
It’s a ton of fun to watch, but don’t you think repeatedly abusing your LS1 right before you swap it out might be a bit counter-productive? It would be the definition of irony to blow the engine when it’s the sole reason you bought the car. Check out the video here.
