The sad truth is that the vast majority of the automotive videos on YouTube are really poor quality; bad video, bad audio, and typically without a shred of artistic flair. But this… this is something quite different. In this edition of the amateur series “Top Speed” we get to ride along on an open highway blast in a souped up C6 convertible with over 500 horsepower.
We are introduced to the C6 with a slew of sweeping body shots, presented through some above average cinematography. The driver enters the scene sporting a backwards Corvette logo’ed hat, and plenty of bravado, and preps the car for its rip down the empty desert highway. The background music fades out, and the only melody that can be heard is a few sharp revs through the Corsa exhaust system before the driver sends the LS3 to the redline, and dumps the clutch. Once the tires finally find some grip, the driver rows through the gears as the C6 hurdles faster and faster through the barren landscape. After the run, we get treated to a few donuts and a mini-smoke show just to punctuate the Vette’s triple digit blast.
I guess we shouldn’t expect every one of the hundreds of burnout or race videos filmed with a GoPro and posted to the web to be this entertaining, but I guess that is what makes videos like this one all the more impressive.
