Video: CMS ZL1 Takes On Stiff Competition In Half-Mile Roll Racing

Time and time again, the Camaro ZL1 has proven that it can hang with some of the quickest cars in the world, and these videos from YouTube will go even further in pushing the ZL1’s reputation as a super-car killer. These vids feature a gent named Mohammed Lika, running his heavily modified ZL1 at the No Fly Zone II event put on by Omega Motorsports Events at Minter Field just outside of Shafter, California on May 4th. It was an all-day ½ mile roll-race event that gave the owners of heavily modified sports cars the opportunity to run them wide open down Minter’s 4,900 foot long and 100 foot wide runway.

Supercharged Viper? Not a problem…

The Lika’s ZL1 was built by our good friends at Cunningham Motorsports, and features a ported blower, a pulley upgrade, an Afco heat exchanger, bigger injectors, Staineless Works long-tube headers, and a dyno tune done by Ryne Cunningham. When all was said and done, the triple-black ZL1 made over 579 horsepower and 537 pound feet of torque at the rear wheels.

Lika’s videos show his Z either putting up a good fight or totally dominating some very, very fast cars. The impressive list includes…

  • 650 horsepower Hennessey CTS-V coupe
  • Ferrari F430 Scudria
  • “550 Horsepower” C6 Z06
  • Supercharged Viper  with 720 horsepower
  • Boosted Challenger SRT8 with 875 rear-wheel-horsepower
  • Supercharged M92 M3 with 620 horsepower
  • Bolt-on Mercedes C63 AMG
  • Stock 2007 GT500

Lika’s ZL1 gave this extremely powerful supercharged SRT8 Challenger a real run for its money.

In a thread on Camaro5, Lika says he made a total of 30 runs at the event, hit a top speed of about 162 MPH, and even drove 4-hours to get there and home in his CMS-built ZL1. Check out Lika’s YouTube channel for a look at all his high-speed acceleration tests from No Fly Zone II.

(ZL1 misses 5th gear against Ferrari.)
