Automotive enthusiasts have a wide variety of different tastes. Some prefer the performance and reliability of modern V8s, while others can’t resist the timelessness of an old school muscle car. For those who fall somewhere in between the two, there seems to be only one solution, and they eventually do just what the owner of this 67’ Firebird did – mix both classic and modern together.
This 1967 Firebird left the factory as an inline six-cylinder car. The owner’s new choice of engine, however, is the popular 6.0L LQ4 that was pulled from a 2005 Chevy 2500 pickup. We love the LQ4 as an affordable option for those looking to add some LS power in their life, and even just simple bolt-ons can really wake these mills up. The owner paired his new LS powerplant with a 700R4 automatic transmission, and installed a Richmond Power Trax locker and a set of 4:11 gears to get both rear wheels spinning and send his bird into flight.
In this video YouTube user “akman360” gives us an inside look at a cruise in his “modern meets its father” Firebird. Starting off in a small airport he takes us through the winding back roads of his home town and eventually hops on the highway and lets it rip, letting us hear the growl that his finished project has to offer. Combine old-school with new, and throw in a bit of Jimi Hendrix and you’ve got your own little slice of Americana pie.
