Sure, work trucks need to be able to take a beating and stand up to the stresses towing, but GMC has taken it to a whole new level. To show off the strength of the 2013 Sierra, GMC took one and hooked it up to four dock yard winches with heavy duty steel chains, but it wasn’t the Sierra that was going to be doing the pulling. Instead, they turned on the winches and pulled all four corners in opposing directions with literally tens of thousands of pounds of stress directly on the frame. The Sierra took it like a champ and lifted straight off the ground rather than distorting under the extreme pressure.

As you can see from the video above, GMC made the Sierra perform this feat not once, but a total of 46 times over the course of several days during the filming of their latest commercial. They give the credit to the Sierra’s ultra-tough hydroformed steel frame. As you might know, Hydroforming is a process that involves using hydraulic pressure to shape metal at room temperature. It results in extremely tough structures and is an ideal process for producing parts like the Sierra’s frame rails.

The Sierra’s “push ups” might not be quite as impressive as say towing a space shuttle. But with over 400 horsepower on tap from the 6.2L L92 and a standard Eaton locking differential, it could probably do that too. Get more details on the Sierra on GMC’s website.
