Video: GTO vs. Tree – Our Money’s on the Tree

Ever wonder what would happen if a GTO lost control while peeling out and hit a tree? Well one unfortunate driver found out just what would happen in such a case at Houston Coffee & Cars last weekend in front of a crowd of people. What’s even more embarrassing is that it was all caught on video. Thanks to our friends at Autoholics for bringing us the news – be sure to head over there for more photos of the aftermath.

Houston Coffee & Cars is held on the first Saturday of every month. Car enthusiasts and their incredible rides gather at Vintage Park to socialize, drink coffee and drive around with their comrades. On April 2^nd, a group of Coffee & Car goers was rolling out of the parking lot directed by a police officer while someone filmed. A red GTO with custom graphics and hood can be seen in the video burning out of the driveway and losing control just as he passes through the intersection, slamming into a tree on the opposing corner. Stunts like this have forced the Houston Coffee & Cars event to change their gathering locations in the past.

The latest generation of GTO’s are adequately powered and can do some damage when it comes to racing, but as the young driver found out, trees do more damage when going head to head. The GTO had to be towed away due to damage to the front and rear of the driver’s side.

We suppose the lesson to be learned here is don’t burn out if you don’t know how to handle your car, especially if it’s possible that cameras are rolling.
