This video posted by Edmunds Inside Line a few months ago, features their performance tests of the wildly powerful SLP ZL1 Camaro Convertible, featuring a supercharged 427 cubic inch LS engine pumping out 750 horsepower at the crank. Our Editor, Paul Huizenga, was able to quickly identify the track where Inside Line ran their tests as Auto Club Dragway at Fontana, California.
So how well does the SLP ZL1 Convertible put those 615-plus ponies pouring through the rear wheels to use versus the coupe model? Pretty stinking well actually. We were shocked at just how close the performance of the ZL1 Convertible is to the coupe model that Inside Line also tested. However, we were even more surprised when we realized just how low Inside Line’s numbers are for the SLP ZR1’s versus the numbers reported in Motor Week’s acceleration tests of a SLP ZL1 Coupe. Here’s the SLP ZL1 Convertible’s breakdown by the numbers:
- 0-60: 4.3 seconds (Same as Inside Line’s test of the coupe ZL1) (Motor week reported just 3.2 seconds)
- 0-60 with a 1-foot Rollout: 4.0 Seconds (Same as Inside Line’s coupe test)
- ¼ Mile: 12.2 at 117.2 miles per hour (Inside Line’s coupe did 12.1 at 120.9) (Motor Week reported a screaming 11.1 at 129 MPH)
- 60 to 0 Braking: 110 feet (Same as ZL1 coupe)
- Slalom: 69.2 miles per hour. (ZL1 Coupe did 70.1 MPH)
- Skid Pad: 0.89 G (ZL1 Coupe pulled 0.9 G)
We double checked that we were comparing apples-to-apples, and sure enough both Inside Line and Motor Week’s tests were run Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Tires. So where do you think these wild discrepancies in acceleration test times are coming from?
