Professional drifters, such as Josh Mason, the owner of the turbocharged and LS swapped Ford Mustang in the video above, are known for having wild personalities. They are also known for having even wilder vehicles, as they go hand-in-hand.
“Long story short, as you guys know, I was drifting the Camaro for awhile.” Side note: Josh owns a badass first-gen you can see on his Instagram. “And now, I want to competitively drift. I bought an S13 , and completed the LS motor you see here that was going to go into the S13.” Cheat code: in case you don’t know, an S13 is a Nissan Silvia.
“Let’s put an LS in a Mustang,” he proclaimed, and so it began. The new LS powerplant Josh employed makes nearly 560 horsepower at the rear wheels, thanks to a 76mm turbocharger and 13 pounds of boost. The block itself is an iron 5.3-liter LM7, to which Josh retained the stock 5.3L cylinder heads. Apart from a mild camshaft, the build consists of a stock bottom-end – utilizing stock pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft.
For nearly 600 horsepower at the rear wheels on a junkyard LS engine build that only costed Josh $4,500 in all, we’d say the FormulaDrift ProAM driver is surely living the LS dream. Check out Josh’s build in full detail on his Instagram page here for more information on his LS swapped Ford Mustang.
