The ZL1 is starting to show up in public so much now that we wonder why they even bother putting the camo over it. Recently we found out that two automotive media outlets were given an up close look at the ZL1: the good folks at Road & Track and our friends at Edmunds Inside Line.
The guys from Road and Track posted this video of a little parking lot test drive they had with the ZL1. Now, the caption of the video is a little misleading, calling what they do in the ZL1 a “smoky burnout”. While they do squeal the tires, and a little bit of smoke is produced, we would expect that the ZL1 is capable of a far better show. But in all fairness, that is probably about as much hooning as the GM guys would allow. Be sure to pay close attention to the underhood shots of the LSA, as the video does a great job of giving us a detailed look at how everything fits together with the ZL1.
Next, the guys over at Edmunds report on their website that the president of GM North America, Mark Reuss, and his entourage stopped by their photography studio in Marina Del Ray, California with the very same ZL1 prototype that ran the 7:41.24 lap of the Nurburgring. Reuss told Edmunds that the car was running a stock tune during the run of the ‘Ring, and that it made the laps with the same 285/35/20 front and 305/35/20 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires the car was still wearing.
One of the more interesting things about Reuss’ visit with Edmunds is that he apparently told them that the next generation Camaro “needs to be something quite different.” Very interesting indeed, especially considering the information is coming from Reuss himself.
