Let’s say this right from the jump – Kids, don’t try this at home.
Drifting seems to be one of those things that a driver is really good at, or thinks they are really good at. The latter type of driver usually manages to constantly entertain us with their terrible botched attempts to mimic Grunewald. Just a quick Google search of the term “Drift Fail” returns over 31,000,000 links; an endless parade of people trying to drive like a pro, only to end up with a nice bill from the body shop. So, when we found this video on YouTube of a V6 5th Gen Camaro RS attempting to drift in the ultra-tight quarters of an underground parking garage, we were certain that the results would be disastrous.
However, much to our surprise, the driver of the yellow RS actually does pretty well. He manages to swing that heavy 5th Gen around the confined parking area with some considerable skill. At several points it seems that he is about to slam those big quarter panels right into the side of a concrete pillar, but with just the right amount of counter-steer and throttle control he always manages to slide right past without a scratch.
Now, he may not be producing giant walls of tire smoke that most of you are accustomed to, but let’s give credit where credit is due. He manages to keep the rear tires spinning at a pretty good speed for almost a minute straight. Very impressive.
And, in case you missed it at the beginning; Don’t try this at home.
