There are occasions when thinning the herd seems like a decent idea, but advances in medical technology and the cult of internet celebrity seem to have had negative impact on the collective aversion to risk-taking behaviors. For instance, “ghost riding da whip” has gained popularity thanks to numerous YouTube videos and celebrities touting their “baller” status by walking alongside the Escalade on 28’s as it slowly rolls along at idle.
However, a phenomenon know as “skitchin’” has been combined with the “ghost ride” to create a new perfect circle of hospitalization. In this example, two young men are video taped while driving a black 4th generation Trans Am; nothing seems out of the ordinary so far, just a couple of guys cruising a modern muscle car.
Here is where things get a little wild; once the cruise control is set both the driver and his passenger climb through the T-Top openings and side down the back window. Once both of the former occupants of the Pontiac mug for the camera, they proceed to demonstrate a feat of stupidity known as synchronized “skitchin’.”
According to Urban Dictionary “skitchin’” is defined as: “To grab the bumper of a vehicle and be pulled. The classic definition would be performed in shoes on ice, but seasonal and regional variations may be done on dry land in roller skates. Exceedingly fun and dangerous.”
Both individuals put on their little performance, then climb back on to the rear hatch of the TA and eventually make their way back into the passenger compartment. As the camera guy show a wider shot, a rapidly approaching stop sign appears; it seems as though the driver is very familiar with the area because he is able to time his stop perfectly without plowing into someone’s front yard or over a senior citizen.
Regardless of your opinion of “skitchin’ da ghost ride” there is a good chance these fellows will become poster children for anti-skitchin’ public service announcement.
