The transporter traffic in and out of Toms River, New Jersey, must be building steadily as the folks at SLP Performance Parts are converting 2011 model Camaro SS’s into their own limited production ZL series cars. Their top of the line ZL585 model has just come back from testing by Motorweek TV and the performance numbers are significant.
Before packing up the family to make the trip to New Jersey, you should know that sourcing a ZL585 for your own is as easy as visiting your local Chevrolet dealership. In fact, that’s the only way to buy an SLP-massaged ZL Camaro. Models start from the ZL 327, which is a V6 car, modded for both performance, styling and handling.
At the pointy end, though, the ZL 585 conversion begins with a positive displacement, 4-lobe supercharger. The 2300 Series TVS blower is that same one used on the ZR1 Corvette, motivating the LS3 engine to deliver a 50-state legal, 5 year warranted, 585 hp. If your SS has an automatic transmission, the requisite L99 engine will honor you with 560 hp.
Your LS 585 will be built with either SLP’s Superflo axle-back exhaust or you can specify the LoudMouth II product if you really hate your neighbors. A suspension package, 20-inch wheels and great restyling components are also part of the deal. For $25K on top of the SS of your choice, you’ll end up with a real head turner.
You can check out the videos below for MotorWeek’s impressions of the car, but we’ll cut the tension now and tell you their results came in with a 3.6-second 0-60 mph time, as well as 11.5 seconds ET for the 1320 run.
