Who here wouldn’t be satisfied with a 570 horsepower, track-tested-and-approved Camaro ZL1 in their driveway? Most people would be more than happy having such an incredible vehicle at their disposal…but not everybody. See, there is a lot of untapped potential in the ZL1’s 6.2 liter, supercharged V8 engine. It just takes folks who really know what they’re doing to bring it out.

Folks like the professionals employed by Hennessey Performance Engineering, who took the already-vicious Camaro ZL1 and cranked it up a notch with the HPE700 package. Then they put out this video of the ZL1 HPE700 in action at the local race track. Do. Want.

It isn’t like the supercharged, 570 horsepower engine found in the stock ZL1 was a sleepy motor, but HPE really wakes it up with a host of engine upgrades. This includes a cold air intake, a supercharger pulley upgrade, a new camshaft and improved cylinder heads, as well as long tube headers. These upgrades work without improvements like high flow cats, a new engine management system and tune to help bump power to 700-ish.

We say 700-ish because despite having a track and dragstrip to race on, John Hennessey doesn’t actually share the numbers from this video with us. That’s a shame, and a little suspect; such a power improvement should deliver some fairly impressive numbers. Why keep it secret? Maybe the package isn’t totally dialed in yet. Maybe HPE is just trying to draw out the suspense. Whatever the reason though, it has us wondering, and wishing it were us behind the wheel.
