Video: This 1958 Beetle Set Will.I.Am Back $900K

Are you a multi-millionaire, who happens to be a celebrity and a car enthusiast? Do you have more money than common sense or taste? If you answered yes to all of these question, then you wouldn’t be Will.I.Am by chance, would you?

About a year ago, we brought you the story on Will.I.Am’s DeLorean, that supposedly, was impounded, then stolen, and then recovered. Oh how we all laughed here in the office when we heard that he claimed it was valued at over $700k.

We rolled our eyes and moved on with life since then. But now he’s back in the automotive press again – this time, with a supercharged, LS3-powered (for lack of a better term…) hot rod.

This car reportedly bounced around to a number of different shops, from the east coast and to the west, ultimately ending up at West Coast Customs for the final results that you see here.

According to reports that we heard from Yahoo News and Jalopnik, Will.I.Am spent in excess of $900,000 turning what started out as a ’58 Beetle into this custom creation that you see on this page.

Believe it or not, this car took over three years to build, and Will.I.Am originally wanted it ready for the 2011 Super Bowl Half Time show. Originally, it was being commissioned by Austin Weiss at The Garage, but according to reports, Will.I.Am kept constantly changing his mind in which direction he wanted to go, what engine he wanted, colors, etc. Apparently, he’s the most indecisive “car guy” out there.

Will.I.Am wants to start his own 'car company' too, apparently. Building cars like this custom DeLorean.

After he had already dropped about $400,000 into it, Will.I.Am decided that we wanted to pull the car out of Weiss’ garage, and ship it to WCC’s SoCal shop, based on the premise that they could get it done faster. Quite some time and another $500,000 later, and this is the end result. 

Fo0r $900,000, there are way better ways to fulfill your automotive lusts. A secondhand Bugatti Veyron comes to mind, or the purchase of seven or eight C6 ZR1s. Or an entire collection of LS powered musclecars, and so on, and so forth…
